Never send keys by post. They are prone to catching and ripping envelopes etc amd then going missing.

Tape them securely between two pieces of stiff card, I use card cut from a cereal box. They can't move about and it isn't immediately apparent that they are keys.

I did send them proof of delivery
Presumably proof of postage rather than proof of delivery.

It is always for the sender to claim from RM for items lost in the post. You may very well have to be the one that claims from RM.

Royal Mail's liability is clearly defined.

They are not liable for any costs arising from the loss of an item of mail.

I don't think this is so. The RM claim form allows you to claim as sender or recipient. In practice it is usually simpler for the sender to claim as they have the PO receipt.

In this case the OP could email a scan of it to the agents and let them get on with it. Don't post the original in case that goes missing as well!
  • The estate agents have emailed me today stating that they are arranging a locksmith to change the front door locks only and they will be deducted this amount from my deposit. Surely they cannot do this as i did all i was suppose to do?
they are saying that i can claim it back through royal mail but the royal mail only covers up to £50!
I really am at a loss of what to do now.
