Savings Disregarded on Universal credit

Hi I am after some advice. I currently receive UC and i am living in a house that has just sold that I shared with my ex. I will be getting over the £16,000 Savings threshold from the sale and will be renting for a while.
I am wanting to buy asap but I won't receive any UC based on savings so all house costs, childcare etc will need to come from this. I however have seen something on the internet that claims that the savings are disregarded if sale proceeds of your home for up to six months if you intend to buy another home.
Does anyone know if there is a cap on the amount and if this is in fact true?
Also when I Change my circumstances to advise I've moved and am now renting but will be putting the money into a house to buy within 6 months. Do I declare this amount on the savings section?
