ESA / Housing benefit and part time work

I'm probably being dense about this but I can't see why the permitted work earnings would be disregarded for HB if claimant was only getting contribution based ESA rather than income based ESA.
I realise this may not actually be relevant to OP but would like to understand it myself.
Hey you arent the only one
This seems (to me) to be another reason why having bothered working, goes against a person in the benefits world
Income based - assumes you have never worked ..or at least in a good while
Contributions based - is based on your previous income - last year, never mind you were undergoing hospital treatment and struggling in agony every day but you will be penalised for this choice
In reality my young man, could have been on benefits for the last four years at least, but has struggled, in intense pain, until six months ago
and this seems to kick him in the face on a regular basis.
EG - income based, you get free prescriptions automatically....contributions based, if you are lucky enough to find out / know about it, you can apply separately for the cert...yes you may get it, but its still just messing pple around for no real reason
This is how things seem to work. Someone please tell me I am wrong
If he was on income based, he would auto get full HB whilst working part time on esa, but contributions based...totally big minefield that no one can seem to answer - it is a case of taking on a job, struggling through it in pain, then applying for HB with the real possibility of getting knocked back and end up making himself more unwell, to be on the same income
whats the point
Im trying to keep his spirits up, but in reality, i cannot see a reason why he would botherThe opposite of what you know...is also true0 -
Contributions based doesn't apply to the person you're asking the questions for because as previously stated, if they're in the WRAG they can't possibly be claiming Contributions based ESA if they claimed ESA more than 1 year ago.
CB ESA is only paid for 365 days if you're in the WRAG, after this DWP assess you for Income Related and if you qualify you're transferred onto this.
This is always the problems when dealing with 3rd party information, usually the person asking the questions doesn't have all the details needed.0 -

I have all the information, thanks. Can you point out where I said my young advocate had been on benefits for over a year?
I didn't say a length of time, as it is not relevant to the OP, the facts are, they are on contributions based. The opposite of what you know...is also true0 -
I am beginning to think that despite agencies telling you to go to them, even the citizens advice do not seem to know...we had an appointment there this morning which resulted in the (laughingly called) benefits advisor, giving us the link to their own website - which gives no conclusive answers

I was simply pointing out that CB ESA is only paid for 365 days if placed into the WRAG. The reason i said this was because you'll be amazed at those that have no idea which they're claiming, CB or Income related.0 -
Whether he's claiming Income related or CB ESA permitted work earnings are disregarded for HB. See posts #7 and 11.0

Sorry, but I don't understand what you mean by this.
What exactly is it that you don't understand?
If someone claims ESA whether it be contribution based or income based they can do permitted work and it will have no effect on their HB. In other words it is as if they are not earning anything.0 -

I mean that in the CAB info - there is no mention of housing benefit at all, only ESA - Their info doesn't cover the question basically - as I wanted to know how PT work would effect esa and hb

Thanks, that does seem to be the general consensus doesn't it, which is reassuring
I just cannot find anything official anywhere, that states this but feel reassured with the info given

A number of sites do state it.
