    This sort of thing is par for the course really when buying a property and probably wont be the only thing you discover doesn't work quite as expected within the first few weeks of moving in.

    As others have said make sure you have a budget to cover incidentals in the coming months as there will probably be more things that catch your eye as the process goes on.

    I've just bought a new flat where the kitchen was installed 6 months ago by a professional company but its my guess in all that time that the vendor didn't use their integrated washing machine without mopping up a water leak after each use as the connection pipes were incorrectly fitted as I soon discovered on the very first use!

    Its a joy that comes with home ownership....

  • So it could be anything from a £1 can of WD40 to £2000 major job.

    I would investigate further and take it from there. If the shower needs replacing with re-tiling I would get a quote and negotiate some. Your offer was , after all, based on the fact that there was a working shower. If vendor says no, then ball back in your court.
    No house will be fault free.

    We ripped out the vendors old bathroom once we moved, was leaking anyways and needed updating.
