Plastic in wood shavings

Hi
I bought a bale of wood shavings for my hamster a couple of weeks back and found a plastic object in it for metal spikes sticking out if it, was about the size of 10p. It's so lucky I spotted it, had he of eaten it he would be dead.
I contacted pets at home and they cannot identify the object and said that they cannot check every bale and that only metal foreign objects can be detected. They offered me some vouchers.
To be honest I'm not happy with this. It's so out of order this was in it and they haven't even recalled the product...could be in more bales for all they know.
Is there anything I can do to take it further or to get a deeper look into this?
Thanks

Do you have a photograph at all, might help with identification.0

Glad to hear you Hamster is ok. We use the same wood shavings for our 2 Gerbils Fudge and Caramel.
It would be the same if you found a piece of Blue plastic in a packet of Ham that you buy in any supermarket. A product recall may happen if more people had a similar problem as you have experienced. I have worked in food production and seen plastic in meat and also worked in retail and seen blue plastic that was found in processed meat.
The Plastic and if it has Metal in it would indicate they may have a problem with how the contents are checked?
Certainly with food all packaging would go through a metal detector and throw out any with metal in. Plastic is a lot harder to find.
Do you still have the object? If it was me I would take a photo of the object and the packaging and upload to Pets at Home Social media asking how this could happen. It would make other people aware of a possible problem and get them to check there wood shavings.

Would you be happy to pay the true cost of this product if it had to be manually scanned for the type of object you describe?0 -

An item of that size will be easy for a consumer to spot whilst putting out the shavings, and also highly unlikely for a hamster to eat it.
Take the vouchers and move on...0 -

What do you want?
You can't be compensated for what could have happened.
The wood shavings are not packed in a sterile environment. Its a natural product. And can't be compared to human food production.
Its like with hay and straw bales, where do you think that has come from. Off the fields. You can't control what has been baled up with it.
If it had been me I would have mentioned it to the company concerned. Just so they aware. But would not have expected any compensation. Or for them to pull hundreds if not thousands of the product.
Yours
