Hi guys and girls.
I've received a question that's baffled me, but also made me realise something.
So my partner has recently asked whether or not my landlord should be updating anyone to tell them I'm paying my rent every month on time so it goes onto our credit files as positive.
Now... I rent privately, so I'm unaware of whether this is the case?
I mean I've been paying £500 a month for 3 years to someone consistently and on time.
Should said landlord (private landlord) be updating someone so it goes on my credit file? As in hindsight, its a credit agreement, with a contract, exiting my bank as a direct debit monthly..
Maybe a grey area, but I'm concerned.
Thanks for any help and input from all of you!

A private landlord won't be reporting to the CRAs unless part of an agreed scheme.0
-
Ah okay that's fair enough0
-
No unless they are part of Experian’s Rental Exchange.0
-
How is it a credit agreement? Are you paying your rent in arrears?
Everyone else I know pays rent in advance.0 -
No one said it was a credit agreement.
Maybe you should read up on this though:

OP said they believed it was a credit agreement, in the first post they made.0 -
What I mean by 'credit agreement' is, I'm contracted to pay a certain amount per month.
I wouldn't of said I pay it on time, if I was in arrears, would I?0 -
My bad. So they did.
But no it’s not a credit agreement.
And you pay by standing order, not direct debit.
But my point about the Rental Exchange still stands0 -
My bad? You care to explain this?0

Explain what?
