Applying for council tax reduction and Universal credit

I've recently had to apply for Universal credit having been on ESA which was stopped.

As a result I got a letter from my local council saying my council tax reduction had been suspended and I've got 21 days to provide new evidence.

I've re-applied for a reduction in my council tax but I just wondered how long it takes if it is dependent on me getting UC.

  • CTR isn't one of the legacy benefits so needs to be applied for separately, you may be able to do it online via the councils website.

what you have done is correct, so its just a matter of showing a UC claim as your income.

dependant on your local authority, CTS claim amendments can be 4-6 weeks. When C/Tax support is suspended, it wont change what you owe until it has been finalised again, unlike HB where the claim stops paying

so dont be too concerned bout the time frame - you will get a new CT bill once they have amended your claim
