Hello,

I am applying for benefits for my mother, however I don't know which one to apply to?

No. Universal credit replaces income-related benefits including ESA and housing benefit.
PIP is a totally separate benefit and can be claimed at the same time as universal credit
  • All of these are separate benefits. What are your mother's circumstances?

You will probably have to claim UC if it's in your area.

New style ESA can only be claimed if your mother is ill and was previously working and paid two full years of NI contributions between april 15-17

PIP is a disability benefit that looks at how people's health affects them with everyday tasks. A claim for this needs to be made separately and this benefit has no affect on any others if she is successful.

On universal credit when claiming ESA do they give you enhanced and severe disability premium if you qualify it doesn't look like it on the gov website?

No these premiums have disappeared. However a single claimant on UC with LCWRA will get more money than a single person in the ESA Support Group even though the enhanced disability premium has gone (about £20/week extra). If they also have Daily Living part of PIP they would have been better off under the old system due to the Severe Disability premium. The consequences of this have caused much debate and the government is supposed to be introducing additional transitional protections but it is not yet clear how this will be done.

Same as ESA Support Group but there's criteria to get into the group. As you haven't given any information regarding your mother circumstances it's impossible to help you further...

Apologies for the abbreviation. Limited Capability for Work and Work-related Activity. As poppy says this is equivalent to ESA Support Group. The test to qualify is the same Work Capability Assessment as for ESA.

Suggest your mum gets a benefit check from the local advice agency / CAB.
Alice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.

Has paid or been credited with Ni contributions from April 2015 to March 2017. Must have actually paid or been treated as having paid for 6 months within one of these years. There are some circumstances in which these rules are relaxed..
