When Mum died, 18 months ago, I took the death cert into the bank (Nationwide) and they transferred the balance of her account - aprox £10,000 - into my account without even looking at the will! I didn't apply for probate at all.It's not difficult!

The person to whom the funds areare released has to sign an indemnity that they will "repay" them if there are any "problems".
The bank may take view on the likelihood of that and the credibilty of the person.0
