Direct debits when switching accounts

Looking to do an account switch soon (one of those that requires active Direct Debits to be eligible for the switching bonus), but I'm not sure exactly what they mean by 'active'.

If I literally do a DD mandate switch to the bank I'm switching from today, and then start the switch process with the new bank immediately after, will that classify as having an active DD with the existing bank, or does it need to have collected at least once?

Thanks in advance!

I'd have thought it would have needed to have been collected once in order to considered active.

The DD needs to have been collected at least once. That's confirmed. :)
The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.
  • Just to clarify though, the DDs I was going to put on the account have collected, they just haven't collected from the bank account I am planning to switch from. So would this class them as being inactive because they haven't collected from the bank account I'm switching?

Yes, they would be inactive. Because when you switch banks, it creates a new direct debit instruction.
