Otherwise you could try the nvidia video codec http://www.nvidia.com/object/dvd_decoder.html that most of us who have htpc's use.I am in a similar position as the OP, when I play DVD's on VLC and the picture is ok and the sound isnt great. I dont know much about the settings of VLC, is there any free program that can be downloaded that can adjust the setting to suit my spec.
Not really, well not that I've come accross anyway. Most pc's come with a soundcard with a variety of utilities that allow individual tweaking of that particular piece of hardware and associated codecs. Other than changing the various settings under VLC and testing each one in turn, it's a case of hit and miss I am afraid. Or at least it has been for myself.
The only other option I can think of is to change the priority of the installed codecs on your system ie: http://www.updatexp.com/windows-xp-codecs.html or to reinstate the orignal windows codecs: http://www.free-codecs.com/guides/How_to_install_default_codecs_in_Windows_XP_2000.htm
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
