RAC Breakdown Problems

I probably had the worst drive ever Saturday!

Which resulted in a tyre blowing out on a pot hole on the M25.

Anyhow I had to call the RAC to find out my breakdown cover needed renewing before they could come out the staff was very helpful albeit a very loud motorway drowning them out.

They asked for £150 up front to cover call out and years membership which I paid post haste as it was freezing this is when trouble begins and I need advice as to my rights.

Basically they promised a 'priority call out' if I paid now and will be here within 45 minutes BUT its non refundable so I paid 45 minutes past for to be told that "staff shouldn't advise 45 minutes it's in fact 3 hours till the driver arrives!"

So I at my own choice as it was getting dark changed the tyre after I found the wheel locking nut and cancelled the call out.

The reason I am seeking a refund is I was promised 45 minutes then when I paid they immediately moved the goal posts.

Where do I stand with this?

They told you it was non-refundable and you went ahead, and it sounds like you'd have renewed anyway if you knew it had lapsed.

I'm sure you could get a quote for a years AA membership and phone the AA back to get them to honour it since you were under duress at the time, then you should get a refund on the difference.

So you're absolutely 100% confident you heard that bit of the call clearly? A VERY definite promise...? Absolutely no "We'll try, but it might be longer"?

The usual advice is "behind the barriers".
