Drivy - any grounds for appeal?

Good evening all.
Here’s a conundrum which I hope you will be able to help with. While away on holiday we rented a car using this new(I guess it is?) app for car sharing called Drivy. The car belongs in fact to a local rental agency in Nice, France.
During the trip we unfortunately damaged the car paint as shown in the picture below(edit: can’t use links as I’m a new user, sorry!) which we did report at the end of our rental before turning the car in.
The result? €770 (£685) worth of repairs, according to the invoice we were sent a few days later.
Being somewhat disappointed by the amount they were asking we looked into it and the documentation they sent us to justify the estimated repair costs was done by the agency itself (duh?) rather than an outside professional.
Do we therefore have any grounds at all for appeal? I just don’t like the way the Drivy team is “forcing” us to pay without explaining what’s going on, with the usual “this is our final warning” technique.
Many thanks for the help

You can not pay and argue the toss if they take you to court.
If you have already had your card charged you can try and get the card issuer to refund you and argue the toss if they take you to court.
Who do you think you can appeal to? You can contact them and suggest a counter offer.
If you look at the terms and conditions of the rental you probably agreed to pay whatever they ask up to a certain amount. That's why it's usually a good idea to get excess insurance.0 -
You break it, you pay to fix it. Where's the contest?0

thats why you take out insurance and XS insurance too.0

It costs a few hundred £ to respray a panel with a "light scratch that will T-cut out" (if it would T-cut out, there wouln't be a scratch when it was returned would there?), then you have the loss of hire fees whilst it is in the repair shop, wages for someone to take it to the repair shop, wages for someone to make 'phone calls to find out when it will be ready etc.
Damaging a hire car can be a very expensive business, £685 isn't way over the top.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Thanks for the replies all.
Don’t get me wrong there- naturally we WILL pay for whatever damage was done to the car, no question about that. It just felt like an unusually high and unfair amount of £ given that the quote for the repair job was made by the agency who owns the car and it could have been very much arbitrary, hence my question.0 -
Hi
Sorry to resurrect this old thread but I’m thinking of using drivvy and wanted some more information about charges from others that may have used the service.
I,ve been quoted 120 euro and a 400e deposit.
Will they try to sell me extra insurance when I pick up the car?
Does the included insurance cover all damage or are there exceptions?
Is there a problem if I dont have a french address?
Many thanks0
