My car is not worth a huge amount of money now and I thought maybe I could save on insurance by changing from fully comp to third party/fire/theft; however on doing some comparisons the third party etc. option is coming out more expensive. How can this be right?!!

Because customers that choose third party fire and theft cost more in claims than the average comprehensive customer.0

Because people that choose 3rd party are the sort you wouldnt trust and drive around the streets bumping into everything?
Why does adding a 2nd driver with claims to my claim free policy lower it?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Ha ha - a bit silly really. I guess if my car's not worth as much as some I don't mind it getting wrecked?!
Adding a second driver lowers your premium because it spreads the risk - if there are two people that drive it it's better than one driving it more. This is what I've read though when I looked it up as I wondered this as well whilst getting quotes. Doesn't make too much sense again though.0
