Before I start ringing around insurance companies, does anyone know of any companies that would insure a senior (10+) dog for accident and injuries and third party only. In horses this is quite common.
Although she's still in great shape, OH and I have decided that we wouldn't put our older dog through any long-term treatments. We have a small but decent fund for her for short-term treatments. However if she got kicked by a horse or hit by a car, I think we'd probably want to try to save her ...

If you haven't already cancelled your existing insurance, please think twice.
There are lots of things that can affect an older dog but that are perfectly treatable with medication and they can still have a great quality of life.0 -

I haven't cancelled as am on life cover so not a decision to take lightly. I definitely want some form of cover and maybe what I want doesn't exist for dogs even though it's v common horses esp for older horses.
We could cover up to £3,000 if she needed treatment which would cover most things that I'd be willing to put her through. Not enough for chemotherapy for example but we wouldn't go there now. I think I need to talk with the vet as well ...
At £800/year (£150 excess + 20% of any vet bill now she's on veteran insurance) my premium just seems very hight! If we managed another claim-free year, we'd have nearly £4,000 for any condition for her as the younger animals will stay insured. Apparently dog size, age, breed, postcode are all against us!
Only one pre-existing condition which was a mast cell tumour two years ago, and she reacted badly the GA and incisions so we'd probably not have another surgery like that anyway now she's another 2 years older.0
