Quality wise I would recommend an evesham laptop (very happy with mine) and a lot come with longer than 1 year warranty. I also found the prices lower for same or better spec than Dell.
The only concern would be its recent financial difficulties-they almost went under but were bought up by the guy who used to own Time PC's (I think). They seem stable as a company now, but wouldn't feel happy making the recommendation without making you aware of this.
Out of my mind. Back in 5 minutes.

Where I work we only buy Dell laptops. They're decent enough kit, not the most stylish but reliable and reasonably well made.

The IBM Lenovo brand of laptops always live up to high quality: one of the best laptop keyboards i've had the pleasure of using actually :)

An interesting point about them being heavy! What are you comparing them to out of interest? Compared to equivalent spec'd Sony & HP models i have always thought that Dell machines were pretty light!

Weight on any laptop to a degree does depend on the spec, if you want a Desktop replacement then they generally will be bigger and heavier than the more portable but less powerful machines.

As for the rubbish that is installed on them, this is true, although the Vostro range are much much better than the Inspirons. But either way i would never consider doing a complete reinstall just to remove a few trials! That is madness!! :)

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
I have come into contact with hundreds of Dells and very had any problems with them.
On the other had I have seen more than a couple of sony viaos giving up after less than a year. One company I know had 4 HP laptops brand new. All of the screens broke withing 16-18 months. All within a few weeks of each other all the same problem.
