Next day delivery charge

Hi,

I ordered an item from Harrods for a Christmas present, it's not an item you can buy from their website, so I called them to order it. I was off work the next day and I asked if they could do delivery the next day and they said they could for a charge. The item didn't arrive until three days later, which is not next day at all! I complained and I was told I would get a delivery refund.

Two weeks later, still no refund. I have been calling and messaging them on Twitter and I am told they have processed it. They have not as I haven't received it. I am constantly having to chase them, no one is coming back to me. The service is absolutely shocking!

I got an email from them today (after I have been chasing them) and they said they have refunded and they have provided me proof attached, which happens to be someone else's receipt with their full name, address, email address and telephone number. Luckily, their bank details are starred out apart from the last four digits.

Any advice please? The service from them is really bad, I would never shop with them again!

When was it posted and when was it received?

Next day means the day after dispatch, if they didn't dispatch for 2 days then they delivered next day.

Or was it posted and then not delivered till 3 days later?

It wasn't posted until the next day, so they didn't even post it on the day that I phoned as promised.

Perhaps they missed the cut off for their parcel company and it was sat overnight in their mailroom.

As it was ordered by phone the order would have to be passed to the despatch warehouse for processing. It would take its place in the queue of other items waiting to be despatched.

Or did you expect the person who took your call to get up immediately and go and get the item and put it in the post?

If I ordered a parcel and asked the retailer if "they could do delivery the next day", then I'd expect delivery the next day.

Next Day delivery might mean next day after dispatch to the courier company. However the end customer doesn't have the contract with the delivery company; they have a contract with the retailer. As such next day means next day from ordering (subject of course to cut-off times, stock availability etc).

Who cares how they do things internally? It's of no relevance at all to the OP. All that matters is that the retailer said they would send the same day, but didn't.

I wouldn't say "luckily" to be fair, you can carry out quite a bit of fraud with the details provided.

I'd email them to advise of the error. Or even give them a phone call. It may be that a human being has made a mistake and thought that you were this other person (though it doesn't make immediate sense, as presumably you sign off emails in YOUR name and not this third party's name?).
