Moving from prepayment

Just moved into a new home which has prepayment meters. I have phoned British Gas who informed me I have failed there credit check, which really pee'd me off as I have always paid all my bills on time. Any how what is my best option to get rid of the money gobblers. My current supplier informed me if I stay with them, they wouldn't be able to get rid of the meters for 6 months (first utility) thanks in advance.

  • Switch to EDF - done in 2 weeks, then after you've been with them for a month on prepayment they'll move you onto credit meters.

They dont credit check and dont charge a fee to swap from pre payment to credit

We did this last year - well worth the initial hassle of switching but much easier with EDF. :)

You have come at a time when prepayment meter rates are not bad at all and its not that drastic being stuck with those meters.
The Safety cap has brought prepay rates well down from SVR tariffs
Go onto UKpower/Uswitch and have a look, firstly at the best prepay rates , then compare with fixed deals.
EDF are known to be a bit slack in credit checking if you are keen on getting a credit meter. . Rather than stay with BG
