Best new bank account for 18 year old

Options
Our daughter is in her final year at school (S6 as we live in Scotland). She has finally managed to get a Saturday job (woohoo!) and now needs to get a bank account to get her wages paid into.
Can anyone recommend good zero fee bank accounts as her wages will not be that much? Can she get a student bank account with all the perks?

Assuming she has a smartphone I would recommend Monzo - ahe can open it today and get an account no / sort code by downloading the app. The debit card will arrive in the post quickly.

Monzo or Starling. It's the future.

Can you pay cash into Monzo yet?
Lots of talk etc about it on their boards but as far as I can see no progress.
I know Starling has an arrangement with Nat West but not sure how it works in practise.

It might well be the future but for a youth account I would start with a bricks and mortar youth bank account.

It does work, but in practice the snotty Natwest staff often try to repel you when they find you don't have an account with them, maintaining that you can't deposit cash into an account that's not yours. Starling have a business account with them and you can deposit the cash, but a teller once even denied this fact, requiring correction by the manager.

Starling told me long ago that they are working on an arrangement with the Post Office, but it never seems to materialise.

Anyway, it sounds like OP's daughter will be paid directly into an account, so I'd also say that Starling or Monzo are the way to go - although I don't know what 'all the perks' would be with a special student account.

I always find it bemusing when parents are looking for a bank for their children, why not go to your own afterall you stick with them and find them reliable.

I agree and would normally have done this, but my account requires the holder to pay in at least £1,000 per month which our daughter will not earn in her part time job.

But can have more than 1 account with different banks (its actually good practice to do this, as systems occasionally go down eg TSB). Then transfer 2 lots of £500 back & forwards to receive whatever benefits you get for paying in £1000
