ID Check on Credit File

I just wanted to ask if you any of you guys had experienced anything similar.

On the 25th October, I bought some AirPods from the Apple Online Store, using my Debit Card.

What interests me, is that on my Experian Credit Report, there is an ID Check search (soft search).

Here is the entry with my personal details redacted:

Search by: Apple distribution international

Entry numberP100

Application type Identification – Generic Check

Name REDACTED

Date of birth

Address
REDACTED

I'm just interested as to whether retailers follow this practice, of using CRAs to verify identities before dispatching orders, as its a first for me!
