    hi donnie and pc helpman
thanks again for your advice.when you asked if i have fixed the things that came up in hijack this log what did you mean? ( how do i fix them). i am following your advice and will do what you ask but only if you have the time to help. i ran avg anti spyware again today but when i get the reults it only gives me the option to ignore once instead of removing or quarentining them, but i dont want to ignore them if they are harmful
donnie i am currently working my way through the instructions on the link you gave me.i have also done another hijack this log as albatross said. i dont know if you want me to put it on here or not.it is still large and not sure if any different from the one i already put on
    cheers again for help gill

In HijackThis, I think you put a tick next to them and select Fix.
Just seek out the entries that I have highlighted earlier and select Fix.

After that, re-boot, run HijackThis again and produce and post another log.

Gill we will have to do this in stages. Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions.

Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and select Show hidden files and folders. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option. Also make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types. Click OK.

    ***********************

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Login on your usual account. Make sure to close any open browsers.

    ***********************

Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click “Kill process” for each one (If they still exist) (You must kill them one at a time) ....

    C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\6.bin\mwsoemon.exe

    C:\Program Files\1stDialer\1stdialer.exe

    C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\6.bin\m3SrchMn.exe

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\service.exe

    ***********************

Click on Start > Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs and uninstall the following programs (if they exist):

    MyWebSearch

    MyWay

    1stdialer

    Smiley Central

    TEKNUM~1
    >> this is the DOS representation of the full program name. We can only see the first 6 characters. See what programs you can find starting with "teknum" and remove them. If in doubt leave it but report back here.

    **********************************

Open HJT ... click on 'Do a System Scan Only'... put tick/check marks next to these entries IF still present and BE CAREFUL you don't mis any ......

A large part in the middle of your HJT log seems to be missing. Please rescan with HJT and post the whole log.

Please also tell us how the computer is operating now. Still seeing poop ups? Crashes? Unusual slowness? Anything else bad?

Well done Gill, The log is free of malware.

However your Java is way out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.

Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 to your desktop from here ……

I see you are using Shareaza P2P file sharing. This is a likely candidate for the source of your original infections. I advise against using it but it's your choice. Make sure that what you download with it is malware free before you allow it on to your computer. NO MATTER what the source of the download.

The slowness could just be down to the number of programs you have loading at start up. They are not always necessary. This is an excellent read from one of the world's top anti-malware experts ...

Now you are clean you might want to read these and bookmark the links for future reference.

If you are certain you have no more trouble you should clear out all old System Restore points then immediately create a new one so you have something to fall back on should anything go awry again. Also remember to make SR points on a regular basis.

There is a little duplication/crossover but all these tutorials are well worth reading.

Make sure you only ever have ONE antivirus and ONE firewall in operation at any time and also make sure they are kept fully up to date.

Don’t forget to keep AVG Anti Spyware and/or Superantispyware updated and use it to scan/disinfect your computer from time to time.

If you do suffer an infection again you should run first Ccleaner to clean out your system.

I get the feeling that years of accumulated junk has been allowed to build up on this computer. So many unnecessary start up items.
I've lost interest again. :) I would just back up driver and important info, reformat and start again with a nice lean machine.

How much RAM is installed? On the keyboard, press the button with four wavy squares + the Pause Break button.

If one is going to indulge in risky behaviour, you should carry the prerequisite armour. Peer to Peer and free mp3s may well lead you to viruses and Trojans.

Luckily, you have PCHelpMan to take up the slack ;)

    C:\Program Files\McAfee\McAfee Shared Components\Instant Updater\RuLaunch.exe (not spyware, just unnecessary)
    C:\Program Files\WinZip\WZQKPICK.EXE(not spyware, just unnecessary)

    O2 - BHO: Media Holding Enterprises, LLC - !!0D39A900-0F3A-4C29-A254-3E65244FDC34} - C:\Program Files\ContextTool\ContextTool-3.dll

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [DownloadMP3] rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\MSA64CHK.dll,DllMostrar Matrix_HTMLownloadMP3:t (What is this?)

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [YourMP3] C:\Documents and Settings\gill\Application Data\YourMP3.exe t (Do you need this?)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [RealPlayer] "C:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\realplay.exe" /RunUPGToolCommandReBoot

    There's also this: O23 - Service: InstallDriver Table Manager (IDriverT) - Macrovision Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver\11\Intel 32\IDriverT.exe

    - Right-click on My Computer and choose Manage.
    - Then expand the Services and Applications section and click on Services.
    - On the right-side of the screen, find the entry for InstallDriver Table Manager and double-click on it.
    - Change the Startup Type: to Manual.
    - Hit the OK button and close the Computer Management screen, and you're all done.
