Mensa Puzzle April 2022 Entry Form
Six April Fool’s jokes were played on a group of year 7 children, and one third of the jokes had the children fooled.
Four April Fool’s jokes were played on the year 6 pupils, and half of them caught out the children.
If the children were tricked 34 times between them, how many children took part?
My answer = 17
If y=number of year 7 kids and z=number of year 6 kids then
(6/3)y+(4/2)z=34
2y+2z=34

Mensa Puzzle July 2022 Entry Form
An insect crawls along a path at 141 metres per hour.It returns, over exactly the same distance, at 47 metres per hour. What is the insect’s average speed over the entire journey?
My answer = 70.5 metres per hour
You can imagine a distance, say 141m for the insect to travel - takes 1 hr one way and 3 hours the other, so 282/4 = 70.5
but the formula to use is 2ab/(a+b) = 2x47x141/(47+141) = 13254/188 = 70.544
