Do I select married or single on credit card application

Pretty confused here.
I got married abroad. My spouse has never been to the UK. So she doesn't exist on any credit agency websites etc.
If I apply for a credit card should I click married or single?
Will either option have an effect on the outcome of an application? If I click married does the application ask for the spouse information too?
Bonus question, do the government even know I'm married? You don't register marriages abroad after 2014.

It's not a trick question, you tell the truth0 -
Ok. I'll click married but I don't see the point in entering my non existent (from a credit point of view) spouse's details.
Is it a legal obligation to select married? I mean let's say I was widowed and I didn't feel like clicking widowed and I clicked single because I didn't want to enter my dead spouse's details would MI6 knock on the door?0 -
If your spouse was was dead you'd be a widow not married!
They're trying to establish your affordability, you either have an extra income or your income needs to stretch to 2. They shouldn't ask her details but will ask household income.0 -
Got it now. Have a nice weekend folks.0

Really simple. If you are married you put married, if you are single you put single.0
