Can a HRT be done over the phone?

I had an appointment at the job centre for a HRT test, which I tried to go to but I had a panic attack on my way there and had to turn back home. Another appointment was made but I'm worried that the same thing will happen again.

I have a sick note due to anxiety and I was originally told that I could do it over the phone, but now I've been told that it has to be in person at the job centre.

Is it possible to do it over the phone? I have all the stuff they want to see and I'd be happy to scan and email it.

Thanks.

Has to be done face to face, either in a job centre or at your home address.

If your Doctors provide a letter stating you are unable to attend the Job Centre due to your health sutuation, then DWP can arrange a Home visit appointment. They only do this, if it is absolutely necessary, as there are limited numbers of home visiting officers.

If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
  • Yes I was told that. They don't have that many people who can do it. I'll certainly try to make the next appointment but if the same thing happens again, what can I do to get them to arrange a home visit?

Have Doctors letter available to send off stating reasons why you cannot attend Job Centre and phone the benefit centre to ask for home visit.

  • I can't remember if I've already emailed them the sick note but I can do that.

I've asked the job centre for a home visit but they said they can't because they don't have anyone who is trained to do a HRT. If I ask them again they'll probably just say the same thing again.

Doctors fit note is not enough to justify a home visit referral.

Hence why I said that a Doctors letter would be needed to explain that your health condition prevents you going to the job centre.

Send the Doctors letter to the Job Centre and ask them to make the home visit referral to the visiting team.

Would it help if you took somebody with you to the Job Centre? Often just having that person along, although they couldn't intervene in the HRT interview, can be helpful.
  • On the citizens advice website it says that if you're an EEA worker or an EEA self-employed person, you don't need to do the HRT. Is this correct?

But you'd still need the meeting to show your pay slips, P60s or accounts & tax return to prove it.
  • Is the HRT necessary if you're an EEA worker or an EEA self-employed person?

Did you not just ask that question ;)

Anyone can be put through the test.

If you're an EEA national and want to claim certain means-tested benefits, you must normally meet the conditions of the habitual residence test

Being a worker or self employed is an argument for you to pass the test, as it could show habitual residence BUT it isn't reason to not go through the test.
