Bank says I never had advantage gold

Has anyone come across this one from Natwest, we are trying to claim back for a mis sold advantage gold account and got no reply from Natwest so we passed to fso, they've come back and said they can't do anything as Natwest are saying they've got no record of us ever having an advantage gold account, even thought it's still the same account number we've had since 1995 and was change to advantage gold for about 5 years.
Are they trying it on with us and the fso?

They're not trying anything on with you and FOS.
Send them your own records.0 -

Remember, it's not somehow automatically wrong to have a paid for bank account. Only if you never used (or couldn't use) any of the account benefits could you argue the case for a refund.
If they were "trying it on" they could just reject your complaint outright..
If you truly want to pursue this, find some statements from your own archive and/or make a Subject Access Request (SAR) for all information the Bank has kept on file for you. If neither yields any pertinent record, then your "complaint" is over before it's begun.0 -
Data is retained for a limited period. If they cannot find any record of you having an old account type then they are required to use any evidence you have that you held that account type.
However, do be aware that if there is evidence you had this account and you changed away from it more than 3 years ago, then they can timebar you (and banks routinely use the timebar on packaged bank accounts).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
If they say they have no records then... they have no records and it will be up to you to supply evidence in the form of statements showing the monthly account charge.
As previously stated however if you did have this package account and you likely downgraded the account more than three years ago it seems that it would be time barred anyway.
If you have no evidence to contrary then I suggest you waste no further time or effort on this fruitless endeavour.0
