BULB warm home broader group has chosen to EXCLUDE The low income element

Options
My mums so upset. I have switched her from SSE to bulb a few months ago, she has always qualified for warm home £140 discount due to her low income.

Before switching to bulb we called to check that with them she would still qualify and was told yes, she falls into the low income category.

The broader group applications has opened and they have excluded all low income applications, you basically have to be a pensioner who falls into the core group to get it.

There are lots of complaints from others on the bulb community pages saying the same, have always got it with previous suppliers and they have been told no with bulb.

So annoyed.

Bulb itself is a mine of misinformation regarding Warm Home Discount. In general Bulb has been and is now using both their proposed and actual membership of WHD as a means of attracting new customers. Personally, I have been watching WHD at Bulb because I manage energy for an elderly relative who is in the WHD Core Group and would prefer renewable energy. Overall, I have dismissed Bulb because the information they provide is at best inaccurate.

For example to be eligible for the Core Group customers had to be with an electricity supplier who is part of the scheme on the qualifying date which is 8th July 2018. However as far as I can gather Bulb became subject to WHD in August 2018. So those who are in the Core group and switch to Bulb before July 8th 2018 are not eligible for WHD. Those who are in the Core Group and switch after July 8th 2018 get WHD from their previous supplier if that supplier is part of the scheme.

When it comes to the Broader Group suppliers make their own rules which largely cannot be challenged. For example according to information gleaned from the Bulb Community forum Bulb exclude recipients of Jobseekers Allowance from the Broader Group. That may be in accordance with the rules of WHD because JSA is initially not means tested.

What I can only best recommend is go back to the previous supplier which awarded WHD and put down the loss of this year's WHD to experience.
