Will Aviva Haggle?

I received a surprisingly reasonable Car Insurance renewal quote from Aviva. However as a money-saver my instinct is not to auto-renew and to look into options first. Has anyone tried haggling with Aviva?

Always shop around at renewal time

If you find s better deal then you hold the best hand when then seeing if your current insurer wants to retain you by beating the cheapest price you have found
  • All insurance companies will haggle!

I find that, as long as I stay cheerful and chatty with the person I'm speaking with, then I can usually get a reasonable reduction on their initial renewal quote.

Yes, but your chances of getting them down to the level of a comparable quote from another insurer aren't great in my experience.

Try General Accident for an alternative quote. It’s Aviva, but the company they use for their comparison site presence

In my case, I received pretty good renewal offer for my car from Aviva, apparently but it was slightly higher than last year's. I checked the market thoroughly, but no other company could match Aviva, unfortunately. So I thought about calling them.

Whilst I have been a bit lazy, I filled the online quote before and found out what I was after (regular Aviva comprehensive insurance). The same insurance was cheaper for extra £20 so I picked it up.

Still, I could call them, but frankly, in my case, I didn't have any argument to negotiate.

    Good luck with your renewals!

I always do this, figures used for example:
    Renewal: £200.

Shop around, comes in at £210 but with £30 cashback, so £180.

I phone up current and say cheapest I found is £180, they match I stay, they don't I leave.
  • No in my experience, but then I am a monthly paying policy holder.

Aviva after 2 years at latest renewal which was very recent, wanted to increase monthly DD from £45 to £52 - compared - got it down to £36 with a smaller insurer.

They didn't even try to match when I called to advise I wouldn't renew. No retention tried.

I've never been able to haggle an insurer down. Maybe something is wrong with me :/
Absolutely love a good bargain. If anybody has any money saving tips please send them my way :j
