Storage Heater not registering on "Smart" energy monitor. Any ideas?

Hi Everyone,

Hoping someone can help as I'm scratching my head a bit. I live in a flat which has 2.5kw Creda storage heaters in each room and in the corridor.

Now a few months back during summer I got one of those "smart" wireless energy monitor thingies which has a sensor that clamps onto the live cable of electricity metre and transmits data to the digital display/receiver. It works well - it gives an indication of the amount of energy I'm using at any time. I can see at a glance if for instance I have forgotten to switch off the water heater.

Now on to my question. A couple of days ago I finally gave in and switched on the master switch of storage heater in my bedroom. Once the economy 7 low period started the storage heater clicked into life. However the use of the heater is not registering on my smart energy monitor  .The electricity meter definitely registers its use and this is sadly reflected in my electricity bills during the winter :D.

Just wondering whether anyone knows why the storage heater use is not registering on my energy monitor?

Perhaps a piccy of your meter and the cabling to and from it would help.

How is your meter connected to the main distribution boards. Has it got a separate feed from it to the heating circuit.

You can fit your transmitter clamp to the single cable on the incoming side of the meter between the company fuse and the meter rather than between the meter and the fuesboards. It will then record all energy that comes into the house.

Simply move the sensor clamp to the first cable into the meter (far left) and it will register the total consumption of both rates.

Thanks for the replies to date. I have taken some pictures of the metre but can't see any obvious way to attach them to my post - other than hosting them on a website somewhere.

I have moved the clamp from the middle to the leftmost cable as suggested and will report back later once the storage heater has kicked in tonight.

Thanks everyone.. Moving the clamp to the leftmost cable did the job. My samrt energy monitor now registers the storage heaters.
