Exhaust warranty

Options
Hi

So first off I'm not sure if this should be in this catagory or motoring so apologies if I'm in the wrong place

I purchased a car from a private seller in July 18.. recently when the car is stationary with the engine running the exhaust has begun making a rattling/vibrating noise

The seller had a new exhaust fitted in May 18 by Kwik Fit which she has given me the receipt/invoice for. I automatically assumed as the exhaust was purchased/work carried out within the last 12 month I would be able to produce the receipt and have them try to remedy this. However on phoning the branch that completed the work to check I could take my car into a local Kwik Fit I was told that guarantees are transferable.

I have checked Kwik Fit's website which confirms what the gent on the phone said. I have booked it in tomorrow in my local Kwik Fit to see what they say however I just wanted some opinions on where I stand. Does the fact that the exhaust and the fitting are less than 12 month old mean nothing as I purchased the car after the fact?

Thank you in advance for any advice

  • That should say guarantees are non-transferable just don't seem to be able to edit my post
  • I can't say it enough Kwik Fit are a bunch of crooks. They told me 1 of my alloy wheels needed replacing, charged £280 for a new one, told them i wanted the old one and they said it'd been stolen from the premises!!

Overheard 1 mechanic tell another he took it home as he needed it but the manager denied that. Avoid Kwik Fit at all costs.
  • Oh I would never go there by choice but wondered if the warranty would cover it before I paid elsewhere. Thanks though

Warranties are rarely transferrable, in this case there is nothing you can do. Warranties are not a consumer right so they can make any condition the want.

You don't have to mention you're not the original purchaser, just show them the receipt.

Invariably they will say that a bracket has broken that wasnt part of their original work and charge you a disproportionate amount to have it replaced, compared to what you local indy would charge.
  • Thanks for the input everyone. I intend to show them the receipt and should they plan on charging me for the repair I will have it carried out by my local garage instead

Prepare for the Fear of God being put in to you RE: how the exhaust is about to drop off, you need all new pads and disks, your tyres are on the limit and they wouldnt be doing their legal duty by allowing you back on the road in an unroadworthy vehicle but will "do you a favour" and sort it all out for you for a mere £££ now.

    Not that i'm cynical.... :D
