Lump sum for children

I've come into some money and want to put £1,500 away for each of 3 children in savings (not shares) ideally tying it up for a while but above all to max the interest. Children of varying ages but one will I'm sure have to set up the account himself in view of age (and then I will take away all the details to make sure does not take it all out and spend it - evil mother that I am).
Any suggestions as to accounts paying good interest which are not also a huge hassle to open and operate would be most gratefully received.
(by the way I'm aware of the rules about parents and income and tax)
