What worries me is the number of people who sell up and go abroad when they retire. So as they get older they find there is little or nothing to do other than eat, drink and relax in the sun.
They are far from family when things go wrong, do not speak the language and most lack proper medical cover as they do not understand the system of the country they are in.
Then when they realise they have made a mistake they cannot afford to buy back in UK and the market for selling where they are has dried up!
We lived and worked in France for 17 years but retired to UK five years ago. That is the best way to do it.0 -

this sounds perfect to me!
we work 6 days a week for 8 months of the year then sit on our bums and do nothing for the winter.
we generally spend time in the usa for part of the winter though. where do you stay in usa? were off to vegas in january, only 5 days this time. previously new york/san fran and also maine/boston area visting family.
Mainly North Carolina and places south of there.
So many places we missed in previous trips we now randomly do a road trip and stop over for 4/5 days if we find a interesting area."Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain."

And the trick is to adapt to a local lifestyle, learn the language ,take up a part time job, I'm quite happy in North Cyprus and have no intention of returning to the UKknightstyle wrote: »What worries me is the number of people who sell up and go abroad when they retire.
