When I was researching jacks recently, there were a few reports of failures with the sgs one and poor customer service. Hence shed away from it.

Poor is a bit of an understatement.

When I took a complaint to social media, after failing to get any response from them, I received a phone call one morning threatening to sue me for libel. I pointed out that truth was a defence against libel and I'm still waiting.

This was about 4 years ago.

If your trolley jack is denting the tarmac, then I'd be getting the muppets who tarmacced yer droive, sorr, to fix the cause of the problem.

It's not happened yet and I want to avoid or reduce the risk of it happening. Block paving would have been stronger but looks crap IMO.

What, worse than the sight of big slab of tarmac :rotfl:

It's an individual preference. Locally a few driveways have block paving and it looks great initially but over time looks worse.

FWIW our driveway has light grey block paving perimeter with black tarmac in the middle. Looks very smart IMO.
  • Well to update, I bought an Arcan all-steel jack from Costco. Makes my halfords 2T one look like a toy. I used 18mm thick plywood (1200x600) from B&Q to go on the tarmac. Worked beautifully.

12mm plywood, a piece a bit bigger than the footprint of the jack. 19mm would be better, but I have found 12mm takes the load fine.
