I was reading an article today about a woman who was recorded by the DWP walking around a shopping centre. This was used against her and she was prosecuted and sent to prison for 9 months.
It quite startled me, as most days I am so ill I don't leave the house, but sometimes I'm better and I do have a walk around the supermarket and get some things, it's a struggle and most times I'm forced to do online shopping.
But if the were recording me, they wouldn't see me at my worst because I would be in the house, only when I was feeling better. As a disabled person are we not allowed to have a wonder around the shops? Are we supposed to sit in a chair for the rest of our life and vegetate for fear of getting sent to jail.

But is is about what you are like MOST of the time not SOME of the time. Someday like anybody doing a physical job I have days when I feel weak or ache.0

It was a bit more blatant than that.longleggedhair wrote: »I was reading an article today about a woman who was recorded by the DWP walking around a shopping centre. She was not just recorded walking around a shopping centre, she was working as a cleaner doing physically demanding work for various clients.
She claimed in her application that she couldn't walk more than 5 metres/1 minute, yet was seen dancing away at weddings on video.
Also for her court date she turned up in a wheelchair, pretending she couldn't walk at all, but subsequently was seen on CCTV getting out of the wheelchair walking around the court building when she thought nobody was looking.
Benefits cheats like this give other claimants a bad name. She shouldn't be defended.poppy100 -
Meanwhile in other news someone was caught doing everything she said she couldn't having defrauded the dwp of £20,000 and got a non custodial sentence.0

I hadn't read the report in detail, and neither was I defending the lady, i was making the point that what concerned me was if I was ever watched they would never see me at my worst as I don't go out of the house.0
