Ohh, they could show up without a stopcock key, and you still have to call out the water company?

Seems to be standard homeswerve practice not to carry them... What a joke, eh?

Yup. I was with them for about ten years, and they sent a newletter mentioning a stop switch for the kitchen wall. This would have been ideal for me, as my internal stopcock is seized up.

The guy showed up to fit it, and said I would have to get Thames Water out to shut off the one outside. I told him to forget it, and cancelled my contract as well.

We took out a similar policy as we've got a new main going in up our street. Our neighbour had a leak underground on his property last year and had to pay to sort it. Given the age of the pipework and the extra strain ours is probably under while the water keeps being turned on and off, we thought we'd get some cover for a year just in case. We'll cancel it after a year when hopefully things will have settled down with our nice shiny new mains.

If you took their policy before and want a new one after a break, be sure to read the policy details. The policy used to cover dripping taps etc, making a difference from usual home emergency policies. They now no longer protect anything related to taps. I find it more money-worth to include a home emergency policy in your home insurance.
