Universal Credit/Does it apply to us?
We are in receipt of Tax Credit, carers allowance, child allowance and DLA for a child.

Your existing benefits are not yet affected by UC.

Carer’s Allowance, Child Benefit and DLA are outside UC.

At some point in the next 5 or 6 years you will be told that your Tax Credits will end and inviting you to claim UC (or something like that - the exact process hasn’t been agreed yet).

However if your circumstances change you might be forced to claim UC before you are otherwise told you must switch. Income based JSA, income based ESA, Housing Benefit, Income Support and Tax Credits are all replaced by UC so if you had a need to make a new claim for one of these but are in a UC area you would have to claim UC instead. A UC claim would end the existing Tax Credits claim.
