Eon prices

So we are with eon and think out bills are outrageous.
We have a eco 10 meter, but are on a eco7 tariff on a 24 rate.

Just been hit with a 800£ bill over 4 months. 600 after they took our credit off.

So with a 2 bed semi, myself and partner 2 kids one 4 and one 2 our DD are 163£

I'm trying to fight it but eon say we are not eco 10 meter despite on the meter it saying E10. And people on our street are being charged E10 with other company's and paying just shy of 450 per quarter.

Can anyone help with some advice please.

£ are meaningless on their own. How many kWh are you using ? What unit cost are you paying ? What does your bill show about your tariff ? Are you submitting reads at least monthly ?
  • According to the bill we used 2373 at 15.41p between 12/6/18 and 2/8/18

Tariff is a won energy plan( there basic as quoted by the guy on the phone) he also said we are on a flat rate. So no cheaper times. But when I argued why he was very dismittant about it.

Suggest doing a search for Economy10 on this forum. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/search.php?searchid=179710790 as an example.

If you have 2 readings on your meter then surely these appear on your bills to arrive at a total.

I would be concerned about your energy consumption. The figures you gave are equivalent to 17,000 kWh per annum based on summer readings. That's not what you'd expect from a 2 bed semi. Suggest you take some regular readings, and look at hot water controls and settings, and appliances such as tumble driers.

I don't see the problem: If you don't like Eon's prices and/or their customer service then switch. Staying is like continuing to stand next to the fire while complaining about being too hot!

Hello Jhandy2 and welcome to the Forums.

It's possible to have unrestricted 24-hour tariffs with multi-rate meters like Economy 7/10. There are options apart from Energy Plan. We've other tariffs that can remain unrestricted as now or, with two-rate meters, be set up with a tariff giving cheaper electricity during set off-peak times.

Our two-rate tariffs have higher day rates than unrestricted tariffs and lower night rates. To benefit, a significant amount of electricity needs to be used during the off-peak times. The actual amount depends on the tariff and region.

Economy 7/10 meters were developed mainly for customers with all electric properties using storage heaters and water immersion heaters. These types of property tend to use a higher percentage of electricity during the off-peak times for heating/hot water. If this isn't the case with you, it could be more cost effective having an unrestricted tariff as now.

If your meter is Economy 7, I'd suggest popping your usage in kWh on to a Price Comparison site. These will show the options available both with us and with the other suppliers. Check the results with both a day/night split and a total of unrestricted usage.

Economy 10 meters aren't on Price Comparison sites and you'll need to talk to suppliers individually to see what they've available.

With the billing, as molerat says, make sure charges are based on actual meter readings and not estimates. We'll be happy to re-bill any estimated charges up to date if you let us have readings. This is something you can do online if you've registered with our website. Once you enter readings, you'll have the option of seeing the balance that would result or actually issuing your own bill.
