The rise in the national living wage will have a small impact on extreme salary sacrificers, apart from that it doesn't seem to have much effect on pensions, which is a relief.

Glad to see a good increase in Personal allowance. Disappointed at no improvement toward pension saving. Oh well next year!

Interesting to see that National Living Wage is going up by 4.8 percent to £8.21 a hour or £16k per year (based on 37.5 per week hours). That is not going to be cheap!

I certainly won't be seeing 4.8 percent increase in my pay!

I know there are costs to it, but I think its good to continue to increase ahead of inflation at present.

If only because I think work should always pay, and if you work full time I think its only right you can expect to live on that, and hopefully it somewhat reduces the hefty amount of in-work benefits that we pay.

It hasn't started well. I just switched on the Beeb's coverage to be greeted by the hideous Laura Kuenssberg. She is one of those people who triggers my 'kick the TV' reflex. Is the statement being covered on any other channel?

I don't think personal attacks like that- calling the BBC Political Editor 'hideous' is worthy of this board. Shame on you.

Anyway, nothing much to report Pensions wise in the budget. Never thought there would be changes to tax relief. However, should Mr. Corbyn become PM, then you can wave goodbye to high rate tax relief and probably the 25% tax free allowance.

Could be worse - Steph McGovern :rotfl: at least LK knows her stuff.

Typical. A big increase in the higher rate tax threshold at precisely the point I retire and stop paying HRT. All personal consideration aside, I think that may be a mistake as it gives ammunition to the left to claim it's a budget for the rich. Thoroughly approve of raising minimum wage as a way of phasing out Brown's ruinously expensive tax credits.

But you (and the lower paid) will benefit from the £12,500 personal tax allowance. Remember it was only £6,475 under Labour in 2010.

Talking of the BBC had to switch off Five Lives coverage as some idiot producer (I presume) decided the best place to interview experts and talk about the budget was in a shopping centre with noise of clashing plates (near a restaurant maybe?) and a screaming child in the background. Its not even as if its on the TV and they wanted some pictures, its on the radio. jeez.

I haven't watched a news programme on the telly since the death of Princess Di and the subsequent hysterics.

Oops: I tell a lie. I saw some coverage of 9/11, having been dragged off by a colleague to watch.

Ah, so that's why you are always banging on about Gordon Brown as if he were still Chancellor ;-)
