Opening a kids bank account without going into a branch

Options
Are there any banks that offer this? I am trying to open a simple current account for my 13 year old and getting to a branch is really tricky. All the banks require the child to be present in a branch even if the account is opened online first.

i understand it must be a identification issue but have any banks found a way of doing this that doesn't involve a trek into town and an appointment, all of which I would find really difficult.

Thanks

  • The Danske Discovery account lets you open an account online or by phone.
Before you begin your application please make sure you have a copy of one of the following saved on your computer or phone, ready to upload.
Proof of ID for the child - either a Birth Certificate, Passport, Adoption Certificate or Full Driving Licence
You can upload a photo of the identification, as long as it is clear and easy for us to read.

    Hi,

Some children's accounts can be opened online then ID provided in branch , some require you to open in branch, but as you have said if its a current account the child may need to be present.

You can open Santander/Halifax accounts online, but Nationwide/HSBC require a branch visit. I havent checked others but looking on each website will tell you how to apply.

  • I did it very recently with Santander. A Mini 1|2|3 was opened online and I uploaded images of the required ID documents as part of the application process. Very straightforward.
