Council housing advice?

I am just enquirying currently my nan and grandad have a council house, and my nan is very poorly with cancer and has spent the past few weeks in hosptial and looks as though she will be moved to a care home if she makes it through the next few weeks as the doctors have said there is nothing more they can do. My grandad is concerned he will struggle to keep the house running by himself, I currently live close by and am pondering the idea of moving in with him if possible to make sure he is looking after himself, they currently receive housing benefits and I would like to know what would happen to this if I was to move in as I work full time and take home around £18000 a year so understand this may impact some of the benefits they currently have any advice would be great.

I would advise contacting the local council and speaking to somebody in the housing department. They will be able to tell you their policy on this type of situation. The way this kind of thing is handled can vary between authorities.0

If you live close by, is there any need for you to do this?
Presumably he can manage breakfast and lunch - you could cook dinner and join him for the meal?0 -
Good advice from TELLTALE to check with local council that there is no issue with you living there in respect of our grandad's tenancy.
In terms of benefits his housing benefit and council tax reduction would continue but you would be expected to make a contribution to both the rent and Council tax. These contributions are called 'non-dependant deductions' from the benefits.
For HB there is more information here (including the rates of deduction) https://england.shelter.org.uk/housing_advice/housing_benefit/housing_benefit_deductions_when_living_with_non-dependants.
If your grandad is in receipt of Attendance Allowance then no non-dependant deductions would apply (I have assumed your grandad is over pension age).Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -
Have a read at the link below if Grandad is over 65?

I'm sorry for being morbid, but have you considered that when your grandad dies you'd be homeless?Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

I'd suggest getting advice from Macmillan.
https://www.macmillan.org.uk/information-and-support/organising/benefits-and-financial-supportAlice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.0 -
I have spoken to my grandad to get as much information as possible they currently pay £84 a week rent they only get housing benefits of £223 a month so they make up the rest, they have the house through cross keys, so my next question is can they increase the weekly amount that they charge rent if I was to move in, I have spoken to citizens advice and they have confirmed my grandad would keep the house as it is a joint tenacy so would just go into his name, if i move in at least I know he will be able to cover his bills and still manage to get by.0

This is all easily sorted if you pay your fair share.
Whatever is lost in benefit will be made up by your contributions surely?
Lets assume he loses all the housing benefit, youre going to pay more than £223 a month rent right?0 -
I would be looking at paying all the rent0
