Building works not needed and expensive

Hi there,
My Mother who is 80 had her regular tree surgeon come out to trim her trees, while doing the job one of his workman claimed he was a roofer and notice she needed work doing. He spent 3 days making some repairs such as 3 new tiles and some cement for extension roof, also on the garage he added a strip of roof felt about 5 meters long and 0.5 meters wide along the edge of the garage. Also he re-pointed some bricks on the garage, i would estimate about 20 bricks have been re-pointed. He also cleaned the tile gaps on the extension roof, i would estimate around 50 to 60 large tiles on this roof. He charged my mother £3000 for this 3 days work and very little material.
I believe she has been ripped off because she is old, they only came to cut the trees for £200 and all of a sudden one of them is a roofer and she is out of pocket by £3000. They also looked at the house roof apex and said that needed doing but luckily she said she would get insurance out to take a look, they actually told her not to park her car in the drive because it may fall down and it looks fine to me. What can i do, the work looks competent but i don't believe it really needed doing and for sure £3k is totally ridiculous?

If you dont believe your mother is competent to look after her own finances you should get 'Lasting power of attorney (LPA)'.

I understand what your saying but thats not what i need to do, i need to know if my Mother has any come back and what can be done to this "roofer"..
Anyone is liable to being ripped off and that doesn't mean using LPA.0 -
Ask for a detailed breakdown of the cost to see what they charged for what and report them to trading standards?0
