O/Style Daily Monday 29th October 2018
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Now light but very cold here this morning.
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, to help his boss out but coming home after couple of hours as we have a funeral to go to, I've also got a day off. DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 moving about, he'll be going to the gym first thing.
Lunch yesterday was roast beef, roasties, mash, cauli cheese, carrots, broc, peas, swede (me only), yorkshires and gravy. Meat had good flavour but was a bit tough. Not sure what we'll be eating later, possibly ham, egg and chips - depends on what time we get back from funeral, we'll be bringing mum and dad back after the wake as my bro is taking them to the crem and onto the wake but then will go home from there as it's on his way home. Just hoping we can get mum through this - she's so unpredictable now.
Back to work tomorrow.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks. Blooming cold here too this morning but we didn't see any snow at the w/e like some of you did. Don't want that stuff just yet do we.
I think the last months/years have caught up with me since the funeral as I have just felt so weary all w/e. I know it will take time to adjust to a new normal but with the help of my lovely family I will get there eventually.
DD, her bf and the 3 DGDs did the sponsored Halloween Monster Dash on Saturday night, in aid of the hospice who looked after Bob (and me) so well. I can't believe the amount of money they have raised - over £1,400!!! Isn't that amazing! Added to the collection at the funeral that's almost £2,000 for their much needed funds.
I am currently surrounded by half dead flowers. As they were all given to me in the first couple of days they have all given up together. Such a shame but they will be hitting the garden waste bin shortly. It will look very bare but I still have all the cards up. I got 39 altogether, some from people I barely knew. Bob touched so many lives as we realised by the massive turnout for the funeral.
Today is going to be another day of doing nothing. I am off down to DD's to spend time with the DGDs. It's back to school for them tomorrow so DD has promised them a day of games and watching DVDs and eating pizza. I have a big raspberry tart in the freezer that's been waiting for a special occasion so that's going with me for dessert.
Have a lovely day if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad and worried on here. So many of us at the moment and I hope better days are not far away for us all. Take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -

My cold seems to have come back with a vengeance, I felt a lot belter yesterday but feel wiped out again today its as if my throat is closing up, ive taken some drugs and will see how I feel later.
Not sure about dinner tonight there is plenty in so we wont starve, maybe a nice hot chilli will warm the bones.
It was bitterly cold here yesterday we went out for an hour or so to a winter market where I got a few Christmas presents, Im actually doing very well and have got quite a few already.
Need to order my mum some zips tonight from amazon for my xmas present from her :rotfl:she is making cushions for the sofa which will be nice.
Right I had better get on have good days all xx0 -
Morning folks.
Another sparkling cold day outside. The sun is twinkling off the sea.
Today is a work day and my cleaner is coming so I'll need to daah round putting stuff away before I leave. I'll also turn the washing machine on, it can chug away whilst I'm out.
Sorry about your cold redruby, it's a miserable thing to have hanging around.
Great to see you back TA and what a fabulous total from the fundraising - well done your family, I feel sure that Bob would be so proud.
Well, my day has to start now. I wish everyone a happy Monday.0 -

Morning all! Got up at what I thought was really late, turns out not thanks to clocks going back, it was lighter...doh! Did have someone coming round to buy something I'd posted on FB but they just messaged me to say they're not coming. Oh well. The cat is back and was watching Cat TV, now he's banging about upstairs looking for somewhere to sleep. I did open the back door for him to go out again but he looked at me like I was crazy...In THIS weather? So, looks like we have an almost cat.
My nose is constantly running, so it's possible I have a cold..Not good, but I'll see. I will get to the shower today.
No plans except pottering about the place although I was thinking about making some pasties yesterday. I've done the mince bit [done at the same time as the fajitas], so maybe a pie instead.
I'm going to make a magic list today so I can actually tick stuff off rather than be overwhelmed with all the little things I never do. The motivativational thread has contriuted to this idea
TA, you've not got the enormous stress as a constant, not surprising you're weary. Enjoy your raspberry tart, glad it was a lovely celebration. nmlc, hope she copes with the funeral. red ruby, I think I'm in your boat with the cold, hope yours goes quick! Christmas presents! so organised! tru, that blanket sounds as if it's going to be awesome. Hope everyone is OK, and PITA mums stop doing that, that was really funny yesterday Ollie, I laughed out loud at that storyHope you're less knackered today Poppy, and the drugs kick in. Nice to hear your day is sunny and busy Gers.
Happy going quick/relaxing/feel better MondayNon me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Good Morning, Oldstylers :hello:. Only just opened the curtains and got a bit of a  - even though we've got beautiful sunshine, there's a 'frosty coating' on all the gardens in the road! I must have had a premonition yesterday when I put the heating on for the first time
! Just checked the outdoor temps and it's 3C - rising to 8 during the day .
nmlc - thanks for starting us off this morning. Hope all goes well today for your family and your DM.
tru - Good Luck with your 'household paperwork' and your knitting :j.
TA - Great to see you online today. Well done to your DD, b/f, and DGDs with their Hallowe'en Monster Dash - that's a really fabulous effort from them and I'm sure that the Hospice will fully appreciate the funds that they raised :T. Have a lovely day with your DGDs - I'm sure they'll enjoy your Raspberry Tart .
redruby - mmm Chilli sounds good for when you're feeling yuk - could always follow it with a Hot Toddy for dessert - then another one, purely for a 'medicinal night-cap', you understand.
Gers - enjoy your day in work and hope your roads are clear.
bellabella - wow your DS is brave to spend Hallowe'en at Dracula's Castle . Enjoy your decluttering :j.
taff - lol at your cat giving you the 'look of disdain' over the thoughts of going back out again - they're so funny aren't they :rotfl:. We really miss our 'long-departed Tiggy-Tiger', but have said 'Never again!'. Glad you enjoyed that memory about my DM - she was a proper character and that was a fantastic holiday. My DS1 is a 'big, gentle bear' and he'd been so patient with us during that week - we often go over the photos that were taken at the time and relive the memories of Mum. He doesn't often come out with 'quick one-liners' like that which was all the more reason why I did the 'double take' :rotfl:.
I've got a shift in the Charity Shop this afternoon, so will take a small flask of HM Magic Soup to have for my lunch before I start work at 12.30 . I wonder what bargains may be waiting for me to stroll through the door today - I've already told the other staff that I'M BANNED from even looking at any of the handbags.
I've got some Sausage Casserole in the freezer - I think that OH might enjoy that for his evening meal tonight - he can have it with Pasta and Garlic Bread. I'll have Mushroom Omelet (2 flat mushrooms need using up).
Sending ((((Healing Hugs)))) to all those lovely people who need them - or just 'want them'.
Keep warm everybody, it looks as though Autumn is giving us a taster of what Winter might bring for us in a couple of months.
Have a great Oldstyle Day - luv Ollie xx0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's very cold here again this morning but the sun is shining so hopefully it will warm up a bit soon. Today is Phoebe's job interview and the poor thing has come down with a heavy cold. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she will still make a good impression despite being poorly.
Lilly is off to college in a minute and there is no sign of Lee yet. He went off to bed last night at 7pm as he felt unwell too. I still haven't heard from the college whether Lee can go so I will have to chase that up today.
We had some very sad news yesterday, my brother in law died very unexpectedly at a party on Saturday night. He was only 51 and it was shocking to hear the news. His wife (Steve's sister)is understandably absolutely devastated. Steve will be going to the funeral once it is all arranged, I think Jemima is going to drive him there as it is a long way away. Steve's mum and dad were going to come and see us next week for his birthday but I think that will not be happening now.
We still had the Halloween party last night as it was all planned but our hearts weren't really in it. The grandchildren enjoyed themselves though and the food was lovely. We still have quite a bit left over so Steve will be having some interesting packed lunches this week.
TA, I was amazed to hear how much money was raised for the Hospice, a massive well done to your family xx
redruby, I hope your cold disappears soon, a chilli sounds just the thing to blast those germs away xx
tru, I hope you get some time to start your blanket. I love getting all my yarn together to see what colours go with each other xx
Well, I have shopping coming in a minute so I will have to go and get the fridge sorted out. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Good Morning Chums
Back home after a couple of days in ol London town. Had a great time and we managed to cram lots in. First day we went for lunch when we got there in spoons (very British) I have discovered they both have an obsession for mushy peas so on ordering a pinini and a wrap they both wanted a side order of mushy peas :rotfl: apparently not available in Canada so its been peas every meal since. In the evening we went for cocktails in the sky garden then had an earlyish night. Yesterday we did the obligatory red bus tour which was lots of fun thanks to a brilliant commentator.
So back home for the day today friends coming over tonight and I have ordered a cake from my friends with a Canada/Uk theme ...Ill try to post a pic tomorrow. They want to come to asda with meI think they will just be loitering in the mushy pea aisle
Dinner tonight is hot roast beef sandwiches onions ...peas of course....and I may do some wedges or chips. Have an enormous topside ready to slow cook after this which I got from a butcher near mum and it looks beautiful...Hope everyone is hungry
Speky how did the hunt for a flat go? Hope it was a success
TA good to hear the family are looking after you that was a great amount of money you all raised
Have a good day all x0 -
TA, make sure you rest, it's a reaction to everything you've been through.
I hope all the poorlies are as well as they can be.
We have a hall full of rubbish out of the loft to go to the tip plus some good stuff to go to the charity shop. It's ridiculous the stuff we have kept up there, some of it for decades. Steve has agreed that all the old stereo equipment and computers can go as well. We have quite a lot of Laura's stuff up there and a much smaller amount of Chris'. Laura still has a full bedroom here as well!
I have also found a company called Garden on a roll which sends you a printed border plan and the plants. You roll out the plan on to the soil and plant through it, how genius is that. We have had an empty border all summer because I have been paralysed by the thought of planning it. neither of us are gardeners and I didn't want to pay the fee of a designer so this seems like a brilliant halfway house.0
