    (I assume 15k buys you a big wedding)Actually, not an especially big wedding these days, though of course you can have a lovely wedding for a fraction of £15K.

    After a quick Google (when I got married it was still conventional to have a chap with a red flag running in front of your automobile) I stand very much corrected... and mildly horrified (if it's possible to be mildly horrified) at the fact that anyone thinks spending £20k+ on a wedding (unless it's small change to you) is acceptable... the next thing you know, the betrothed couple will start conjoining their surnames as part of the process too.

    23.5k p/a income

    Mortgage at £450 and £97 other loan outgoings.

    Does your partner work ?

    Do you have dependents to support?

    What form is your mortgage , i.e. Help to Buy?

    Many factors to be considered.

    MSE views on weddings aren’t mainstream... What does your fianc!e earn? You can’t really afford a £15k+ wedding on your salary.

    I only paid 7 shillings and 6 pence {said a little voice at the back}

    Actually that was the Registery Office cost, also lashed out a few quid on drinks and sarnies :beer:

    :think:

  • A wedding is just a wedding, but a marriage is (we all hope) forever. Don't make it harder for yourselves than it needs to be. Time for a proper grown-up conversation about what you want (what you really really want), not just for the wedding but for the marriage.

    And don't forget those four little words that keep a marriage together -

    Can we afford it?
    No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...
  • What if the marriage only lasts 1 or 2 years.......?

    And ask the wife to contribute 50% of the cost.
