They are doing you a favour rejecting you. I would think any true friends and half* your relatives would be horrified to think you'd gone into debt for five years just for a one day party when you could hire a marquee or a room somewhere and do it for a fraction of this and have just as much fun without a ridiculous Keeping Up with the Joneses type of bash.
This would be a god awful way to start married life and it could even be the financial strain makes it more likely it doesn't last.
I dont know if its one of you pushing for it, or neither of you willing to acknowledge to the other that you cant afford it so do something you can.
* the other half are the ones you shouldn't invite anyway.0 -
In the interests of completeness (and in the vane of making unhelpful suggestions) I thought it worth pointing out that number 5 on DCFC79's list should be to get the farther of the bride to pay!!
It's a well practiced tradition the world over and if you're going to be old school and have a big wedding (I assume 15k buys you a big wedding) then you may as well respect the other traditions too!!The views expressed here are my own. I am not a Solicitor nor am I affiliated with any of the parties I mention. If you disagree with any of my comments please say in whatever way feels most natural to you. I suspect if they did they wouldn't be getting a £15k wedding

Actually, not an especially big wedding these days, though of course you can have a lovely wedding for a fraction of £15K.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0 -
How much do you have in savings?
Spending more than half of your annual salary on one day is absolute madness, especially when you have to borrow the money.
How much is your other half contributing to the wedding?
You could well be still paying this off when you are in the divorce courts."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
Setting aside the reason for the loan.
Affordability is likely the main reason for rejection. You could have made a mistake on the application which conflicts with the information held by the CRA the lender uses.
Poor debt management from a previous loan / card?
Borrowing 15K to fund a wedding is a major error of judgement though. I got married 500 years ago for a lot less.
Will you be looking to buy a house in the near future? That level of debt certainly wouldnt help you get a mortgage.0 -

Was it really 500 years ago? Weddings were a lot cheaper then or does it just seem like it!0 -
It's 278 p/m, I could walk into a car dealer and get finance on a car and most likely be accepted for a car valued 15k so not sure why a loan is different.
Seriously? You don't understand why an unsecured load is different from a secured loan?
Maybe just stop and think about it for a bit.0
