Do we need a full planning application?

This relates to permitted development versus a full planning application.
Looking at the house from the garden.
Our garden length is 30 metres and the width is 8 metres.
We would like a rear extension (not side) which is 6 metres from the back wall out and 5 metres across from the left hand side, which is semi detached. The right hand side is attached.
I understand that because we want to go back 6 metres we need to enter the neighbourhood consultation scheme.
Do we need full planning because we want to go across 5 metres (or 4.85 metres to be exact).
Our measurements are from external brick to brick (not internal)
We are not a conservation zone or listed.
Feel free to ask anything else.

The restriction on the width is related to the existing width of the house. The extension needs to be within the width of the house (when it was originally built). There are some constraints where you are restricted to half the width of the house. One of those being if the rear building line is not straight.
You can read more about the restrictions in this document:

Note that if approved you will need to complete the build by May 2019. Its also subject to your neighbours not objecting.0 -
Thank you.
This has given as something to think about. I thought we could go as far across as long as we did not overstep the 45 degree line from the neighbour.
Hubby just measures and we are between 55cm and 74cm over half width, which will give us a straight run of kitchen cabinets from the existing space.
I anyone's experience do you think the 55-74cm is an issue?0 -
Also I forgot is it 3m or 4m height we can go to?
Many thanks0 -

I wasnt suggesting that you can only go half the width. Its just there are some situations where this is all you can do. Is the rear building wall straight?0 -

It depends. You either need to read through the technical guidance I posted or employ someone who knows the rules to draw it up for you. Which you will likely need to do anyway.0
