Car tax issues! Help!

I’ve bought a car today.
I’ve swapped everything online on the DVLA website with the old keeper present, however the previous owner has not paid the direct debit and it won’t let me tax my car via Direct Debit myself.
I’ve tried using the green slip, I’ve tried speaking to DVLA and they have said that I have to pay 6 months upfront. But I just can’t afford £100+ after paying for the car many advice? Thankyou.

As far as I know you can only tax at the post office with the new keepers slip buying six or twelve months so I'm afraid your only options are find the money or park the car off road and declare it as sorn until you can afford it0

Hello
I can tax it online, I get all the way through but because the old owner didn’t pay their direct debit it’s black listed the car and it won’t let me tax it via Direct Debit.
I can pay for either 6 or 12 months online but I just can’t afford it.
I just find it unfair that I am being penalised for something the old owner has done
Thankyou though0 -
Try phoning the DVLA. It can take a few days for details to update on their system. Its likely that as a new owner you will be able to pay via DD.

Give it a day or 2 for the databases to update (2018 and still can't have instant updates) then try again.
Once you are fully recorded as the new keeper it will allow DD.0
