Okay folks hubby and I disagree over placement of new carbon monoxide detector. Gas boiler in bathroom hot press cupboard. No other gas appliances in house (2 storey house). Original detector placed in cupboard on ledge about 12” to side and same distance below boiler by installer. New detector instructions are confusing and I think should be outside bathroom hubby says in cupboard ok. Now I have a gin and tonic at risk here so advice appreciated. Honeywell XC1000 monitor. Thanks

"Away from doors or windows as this may lead to the detector sensing lower carbon monoxide levels than are actually present due to draughts. Don't place the alarm in a cupboard or area where it will be more difficult to hear the audible warning. Alarms can be installed at head height on a wall, on a bookcase or table."

So it appears that it's an issue of whether you can hear it or not that affects the decision to place it in a cupboard?

We had a dying alarm 'beeping' every minute, I could hear it through our insulated bedroom floor at night as our boiler is in the garage below. Couldn't take the battery out of the alarm as it was a sealed unit. Shut it in the fridge in order to get to sleep. Took a hammer to it eventually.
