Changing name with banks

I have changed my name by deed poll (printed myself at home for free. This is MSE after all)
The DVLA accepted the document with no issues and changed my name on my licence.
I took my newly issued licence and the change of name deed document I used to change my name with the DVLA to the bank today who refused to do the name change today and said the helpline wasn't avalilable to confirm if they can take the deed poll as it isn't done by a solicitor (which it doesn't have to be)
Are banks still so backward thinking that they won't accept it even though the DVLA have? Am I going to continue to have issues changing my name on accounts or if I go back in the week and get them to speak to the helpline they will process it eventually. Thought it would be easy to change once my driving licence was in the new name.

I had something similar many years ago - the documentation required may vary from bank to bank - did they want an extra piece on top of your photocard driving licence (for example a utility/phone/council tax bill)?
One of the bank employees told me once, and I quote, 'it needs to have one of those red stamps that are raised'.
So I bought a red sticker seal of approval from ebay for 99p and stuck it on to another copy of my change of name deed and they accepted it. :rotfl:
I complained and got £20.99.:grouphug:Official MSE canny forumite and HUKD VIP badge member

Was your home made deed poll witnessed by anyone?0 -
Yep its signed by two witnesses and as I say was accepted by DVLA with no issues at all. Also changed on Electoral Roll . Will try the bank again in the week and see what happens. Just seems stupid that they won't accept it alongsode the driving licence in the new name which I could use to open a new account somewhere else :rotfl:£2 Savers Club for 2022 #120

Which bank?
They should accept it, but if this is a high street bank then their staff are probably poorly trained. You might have better luck with the helpline.0
