Hi, if you had a week and reasonable/modest budget and didn't really want to self-drive, where would you go on a first safari to see the most diverse amount of animals? Serengeti? Kruger? Somewhere else?

Tanzania. Ngorongoro crater is the best place on the planet for seeing wildlife Also Serengeti and Lake Manyara. Fly KLM to Arusha and pick up a Driver and car there. We went with Roy safaris - it was great and a week was enough time.0

I concur with the Tanzania option. I flew into Kilimanjaro airport and did Arusha National Park and the parks mentioned in the previous post. I took a flight from the Serengeti to Zanzibar for a week on the island before heading home. That flight was in a small prop plane and was an experience in itself.
I haven’t been on any other safaris so have nothing with which to compare. The northern parks in Tanzania are always in a vehicle but if you wanted a walking tour I think that they can be arranged further south.0 -
Have been to Kenya and Tanzania and definitely preferred Tanzania. We stayed in Selous and did driving, boat and walking safaris. If you have 10 days or 2 weeks available I recommend combining with another reserve or a beach resort.0

I booked the whole thing myself from flights to Cape Town and hotels then internal flights to Port ElizabethHi there! We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I've only got limited experience of safaris, but I am going to suggest Amboseli in Kenya, which is compact with lots of opportunity to see the wildlife. You could add a day or two to Lake Nakuru to see the flamingos if the right time of year.0
