I thought all income potentially available is counted so that you couldn't choose to take a lower amount from your pension fund just to qualify for ESA.

If you had a larger amount available to you, all of it would be counted whether you took it or not. Is that not correct?

Income that is available on application from personal pensions is disregarded unti you reach state pension credit age.

  • Resurrecting this thread to ask if there is any risk that taking this pension could be seen as a change of circumstances and push me onto UC?
Or that it might remind them I exist and trigger a re-assessment?

Completing the forms has been quite bad for me in the past, so I want to avoid it as long as possible.

It won't be classed as a change of circumstances to prompt a move to UC.

You can be reassessed at anytime for ESA so if you're sent the ESA50 then it will be coincidence and nothing more.
