This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning chums
Well thats me back to waking at daft o'clock again...4 today
We are heading to London for the weekend today and my brain is really worried about it for some reason. Mind you the other worry was to remember to take out a joint of meat in my freezer that is for Mon.....really!! you woke me up for that?...thanks brain.
So yesterdays trip to Liverpool was great although we were dodging showers. Had lunch at the quintessentially British Pizza Express
The Beatles exhibition was really good even speaking as a non fan. My Canadian friends loved it so it was worth having to listen to their music for over 2 hours
Dinner last night was chilli and fajitas followed by a lemon cheesecake. Glad to be "off" for a couple of days now. We are staying in lovely hotel overlooking tower bridge and best of all it has a spa so plan for today is to get to London have some lunch then laze in the hotel for a while before heading out to the sky garden for cocktails and something to eat. Tomorrow will be full on sight seeing. Hoping I get a decent sleep tonight as this will start to stack up again and I need energy
Still have to pack when I hear movement upstairs but no ball gowns needed so wont take long.
Hope yesterday went as well as possible for our TA
Holly messaged yesterday and she is very low but being well looked after. With the staff help she has taken up water colour painting. Im sure this will do the world of good. She should hear this weekend when her next op is

Morning everyone
Nelski - thanks for starting us off, I woke early but not quite as early as you, but didn't go to bed until 1am, looking forward to the extra hour tonight.
Hugs to those that want/need one, thinking especially of our poorlies, carers and people that are grieving especially TA and her family. Sorry to hear that Holly is struggling, but hope the painting may help her.
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Feels very cold here this morning, air has a real nip to it, although not raining yet, it's forecast for today and tomorrow.
I'm now showered and dressed and eating brekkie whilst on here, I wasn't working today but am now, staff sickness still ongoing at work.
Dinner last night was chicken and bacon kievs, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg for the menfolk. I had jacket potato and tuna with a salad. Tonight will be pizza and chips, side salad, I'll be having salad - not sure what with.
Yesterday afternoon I made some leek and potato soup - the leeks were 50% rtc, so I used the chicken carcass from the fridge to make a pan of stock, then used most of the stock to make the soup, I'll be having a bowl for my lunch. There's 2 tubs full in the fridge and 3 of stock that I've chilled in the fridge and will move to the freezer this morning. So no waste from a small chicken. We have a joint of beef with the trimmings for tomorrow's lunch.
I was reasonably productive yesterday and got the ironing done and more washing, changed our bed also.
Keep safe and well x

TravellingAbuela I hope all went well yesterday, thinking of you xx
Hester I hope CHS has settled at home, how is he doing?
Nels It sounds like you're having a great time with your friends
Thanks for letting us know how Holly is doing x
Two men came out from the HA yesterday, about that tree. As usual the neighbour didn't answer her door so they asked if they could look at it from our side. I thought they were going to have to dig a bit to check roots, take measurements, etc. (or something – I don't know how these things are done) but they stared for a second then one said “oh that has to go” and the other replied “yep”. We were chatting, all sensible, but I was dancing a very merry jig on the inside
I've only repotted a couple more plants. I've decided to plod along in the garden for now, nothing needs doing urgently and the weather keeps changing, messing up my plans, lol. It was sunny but cold yesterday til mid-afternoon, suddenly the sky went black and it rained heavily. I stepped into the kitchen, Scampi raced up the garden to the house and stood in the doorway, looking for mr tru. He'd stepped into the greenhouse, Scampi was confused and thought he'd vanished, he paced in the doorway til he saw him againThe rain only lasted a few minutes then the sky was clear again.
It's very cold out there this morning, I flicked the heating on and it now feels very cosy in the house. Not sure what we're doing today, I have a delivery coming so I don't want to go out but I also want to go outHopefully I'll get an email with a timeslot so I'll have some idea of what I can do. At the moment, all I know is it's arriving by 9pm.

Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off Nelski glad you're enjoying yourself
Gentle hugs to all who want/ need them.
Special thoughts TA and her family, and Holly.
Hester hope CHS is home and recovering
Cold this morning, not sure what we are doing. Housework needed but I'm too tired to do much.
Hope you all have a good day.If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Good Morning All
Brr, it's cold this morning but not the expected frost. The bedding is in the machine, I'll hang it out once it's light as it's due to be a lovely day. There's a towel wash waiting to go in too.
I was going to come home from work and do the housework but DD wanted to go to Costco - Friday night traffic made it an arduous trip, by the time I got home I didn't feel like doing anything so I didn't!
Good news on the tree tru.
Enjoy your trip to the big smoke Nelski and thanks for keeping us updated about Holly.
HH - How is CHS?
Sending hugs to TA and anyone else in need.
Hope your DM is better Gers.
Yoga and the dreaded housework today, hope you have a good day. Take care. XX0 -
Good Morning, Oldstylers :hello: - bright, dry start to the day here with no rain forecast :j.
Nelski - thanks for starting us off. Good to hear that your Canadian friends enjoyed the Beatles Exhibition. I was never a proper fan of them in the 60's and living in Merseyside, there's a tendency to get 'all-Beatled out'! I find the 'Museum of Liverpool Life' far more interesting
. Hope work goes well today! Thanks for the update on Holly - water-colour painting sounds very therapeutic and something for her concentrate her attention on.
nmlc - sorry to hear that you've got to work an extra day- and well done on all your cooking yesterday :T.
tru - great news about the 'nuisance tree'- hope your neighbour is co-operative when it comes to 'felling time'.
silver-oldie - have a great day, whatever you decided to do with it.
camelot1001 - hope the day stays good for your washing to dry :j and enjoy your yoga session.
Thinking about TA and her family - very hard to see other people go back their 'own normality' when you no longer have that (((gentle hugs))) for you all.
(((Healing Hugs))) for all those who are ill / carers / feeling lonely.
We're off to St.Helens today, to see Bohemian Rhapsody and will be 'eating out'. Probably only in Wetherspoons, as it's right next door to the Cinema and only a short walk to the bus stop for coming back home :j.
DD rang yesterday to tell me about Bo Rhap being on ................... she was 'most miffed' when I told her that I knew and we'd booked for today. Wanted to know why she hadn't been invited - she's the one who's just been gallivanting in France for three days and is 'put out' about ME going to the pictures :rotfl:!
Have a great Oldstyle day, everybody - luv Ollie xx0 -
Frost here this morning, slept well with no pit stops last night, Had a great couple of hours with best chum, only bought a Christmas tree ornament and a birthday card, although was very tempted by a lovely pair of Navy cord skinny trousers in a sale.:)
It seems that Mum was confused for a while yesterday and didn't feel well, nurses put her into bed and requested a visit from the Duty Doctor, wondering if she might have a UTI again, will see what today brings.
Tru Great news about the tree. Gers I hope that your DM will be OK. Camelot enjoy the Yoga session. Hester take care of yourself as well as CHS. Silver-Oldie just do what is really necessary and try and get a bit of rest today and keep snug and warm. nmlc Just as well I don't live near to you, your food always sounds delicious. Nelski thank for the update on Holly, have a great day in London. Specky have a great time in Manchester with your DM. Nanny has that cold taken itself of elsewhere?
Hugs and positive vibes to TA and family, Holly, taff and Poppy. Cranky hope the AB's are working.
Lamb Tagine made for tonight's supper and a GF Victoria Sandwich (cheated used a GF mix, but even OH likes it so a nice little time saver.
Take care all.The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
Good morning everyone,
Thinking of TA and family this morning. I'm glad to hear that Holly is being looked after too.
Nelski your weekend sounds lovely. The sky garden is one of the places that I'd really like to visit. I hope Speky finds somewhere decent to live today as well.
Yesterday I made 90 or so mini cupcakes (about a third of the size of a fairy cake) for a birthday party that we're going to today so this morning's job will be to decorate them. I could have done that yesterday but it's a faff hiding them from the cats. It's much easier to put them all in a tin overnight then put them in the car in batches as they're finished today. The cats don't like cake by the way, but they do like fiddling with things that they're not supposed to touch. I may also have added a bit of brandy to the Christmas cakes while I was in the kitchen baking
Take care all of you0 -
Morning all
Much colder here this morning but sunny and bright, I have my work clothes in the wash and will ask OH to hang them out later.
I have woken feeling very rough this morning sore throat sniffing coughing and sneezing, typical that it waits till the weekend to hit me ! I think im going shopping with dd this morning but will light the fire when I get back and cosy in and watch a film.
I have woken with an urge for hm pizza possibly with a warm salad so will do that for dinner, I think dd is staying over tonight as her OH is working so that will be nice.
OH has an optician apt this morning and the log man is coming at 11.30, hopefully I will be shopping by then so wont be able to help
Tru glad scampi likes the treats, we call them doggie Ritalin here :rotfl:
TA hope yesterday went as well as it could xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning lovely people and thank you all for your virtual support and PM's leading up to my lovely Bob's funeral yesterday.
The church is a large one and it was packed with standing room only at the back. We expected a lot there but wow not that many. The DGDs and DD's bf read their prayers and poems faultlessly and DS's tribute to his dad was met with thunderous applause. I have never come across that in a church before. But it was spoken from the heart and tugged a lot of heartstrings. It was a beautiful but very emotional service. We then went on to the Crem but that was mainly family and good friends only. Another very touching and emotional little service before we went back to the club. I really didn't feel like socialising and just wanted to go home but, of course, I had to stay. I endured it but didn't enjoy it but other people seemed to and the caterer had put on a lovely buffet.
As Olliebeak says I now have to start a new sort of normality which will be hard as I currently feel bereft. Everyone says I will cope because I am strong but I am not, it's just an act which I seem to have got good at.
Have a nice weekend folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need/want of them. I hope we have better news on HOLLY after the w/e. She sounds to be getting good support which is important xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Ollie, Lame Wolf, but I should have known what day it was because I posted on the daily thread!! Talk about a goldfish memory...
Today is bloody freezing [for me] but sunny sunny, so house will warm through the windows. WOuld like to put log fire on but off out later to a friends for chinese food, will see how that goes
Took the curtains out and looked at them, they are...get this....St Michaels M&S curtains, so I can be assured of quality!! Proper vintage curtains...they're a nice burnt sienna colour too, so will have to go careful with edging and bottom. Need new header tape too, the original is cotton. I have some stashed somewhere , will have to find it.
Glue is off the ceiling, heatgun worked a treat, took a while though, the ceiling is only about 5ft by 2ft, took me about 3 hours on and off.
Food at OH mums last night was enough to feed an army...There were six sausages in my portion...I managed two...OH managed his easily. Then apple crumble and custard, which I managed half of. OH managed my leftovers and his mums leftovers, he was very...very..full when we got back, and was very much regretting his 'one waafer thin mint'....:)
I made myself proper coffee this morning in the percolator, I haven't been able to drink it for weeks because it tastes disgusting, but I thought, I'll give it a go, and it actually tastes almost normal, yay. This second lot of chemo does make things taste disgusting and gritty, but it's not as bad as the first lot, which made me want to barf at the taste in my mouth. Fingers are a lot better today too, only hurts at the tips now.
Carry on having mucho fun Nelski, I'd love a London visit just to see the galleries again, and I have never been to the national history museum, which is shocking really..hope you get a good sleep in the hotel, did you get a new mattress after? SO, keep warm, potter, don't overdo. Glad Holly is better, hope TA had a good celebration yesterday and is coping today. Edit - took me so long to write this, you had already posted TA. It is idfficult, when my mother died my father didn't know what to do with himself, he was depressed [although he didn't call it that or seek any help for himself], his routine had gone, his best friend and closest person who shared all his memeories for fifty years was gone, it took him a while to want to start living again, to find a routine, to enjoy small things. It will come, but spending so long with one person and then having them wrenched away is hard, and lonely too. Hang in there...
Ollie, a friend went to see it and cried his eyes out so you may want to take hankiesnmlc, nice to know you showed the chicken who was boss
tru, that's brilliant news about the tree! maddie, hope they sort out your mum. Lamb tagine...nom...good luck with the cupcakes cranky, red ruby, hot toddies, and keep them coming....Good luck with the flat hunt SPerky, Poppy, hope you're ok. Roaring fires for the coldies, sparklers for the upbeats....Happy Saturday
